Fluids are a type of floor tile representing liquids, which will slow down all non-flying entities when moving through them, and may cause damage to entities standing on the fluid tile. The different type of fluids in JHC are as follows:

  • Water (represented by a = or =) doesn't damage and is mostly decorative, but movement time on water tiles will be increased by 25% (e.g. at the default speed of each movement taking 1 second, movement on water will take 1.25 seconds). Additionally, any enemy that dies on water will not leave a corpse, making it useful to prevent them from being resurrected, such as when fighting Warlocks, playing the Nightmare! difficulty, or playing Angel of Darkness.
  • Mud (represented by a = or =) also doesn't damage, but will slow down the player and enemies much more dramatically than other fluids, with movement time on mud tiles being increased by 65% (e.g. at the default speed of each movement taking 1 second, movement on mud will take 1.65 seconds). Like with water, any enemy that dies on mud will not leave a corpse.
  • Acid (represented by a = or =) does 6 acid damage per action to any entity that isn't immune to acid nor fluids. Any enemy that dies in acid will not leave a corpse, and any item dropped in acid will be destroyed, unless it's a Unique. Movement time on acid tiles will additionally be increased by 25%, and phase devices will not be able to drop the player on an acid tile.
  • Lava (represented by a = or =) does 12 fire damage per action to any entity that isn't immune to fire nor fluids. Any enemy that dies in lava will not leave a corpse, and any item dropped in lava will be destroyed, unless it's a Unique. Movement time on lava tiles will additionally be increased by 25%, and phase devices will not be able to drop the player on a lava tile.
  • Blood (represented by a = or =) is a more unique type of damaging fluid, which doesn't harm any enemies, but will deal 12 plasma damage to exclusively the player for every action they spend on blood unless they possess plasma immunity for their feet or possess complete fluid immunity. Additionally unlike with acid and lava, items dropped into blood will not be destroyed and items can even spawn in blood, while phase devices can drop the player in blood. Any enemy that dies in blood will still not leave a corpse however, and blood still increases movement time by 25% for all non-flying entities.
